Idaho, Hapton and Everything in Between for our Plews Riders

Idaho. Hapton. Italy. Germany. Last weekend the Plews family spread itself across three continents and the results came flooding in from every direction. Here is what happened.

Silver Kings Hard Enduro: Round 3, Hard Enduro World Championship

Round three of the Hard Enduro World Championship headed to the mountains of Idaho for the Silver Kings Hard Enduro, and it delivered everything the sport promises. A parade, chaos in the prologue, tight racing through the mountains, and a final day that only the toughest riders could survive.

Prologue

The prologue set the tone with big jumps and some serious action. Mario Roman came through in P12, Marc Fernandez P15, Toby Shaw P16, James Moore P13 on his first ever visit to America, and Matt Green P19. The stage was set.

James arrived with the kind of energy you would expect after Erzberg. "America's been pretty interesting. It's my first time here. It seems like a race that might suit me. We're excited and ready."

@HEWC
Day One

Day one took riders deep into the Idaho mountains. Riverbeds, rocky trails and some seriously technical hill climbs across a proper off-road day in some stunning terrain.

Mario put in a solid ride to come home P7 for the day, running The Tough One on the rear with the standard 120 mousse. A setup that proved its worth through the varied conditions. Matt Green had a strong day too, finishing P9 with some tight racing through the field.

James Moore was sitting P10 overall and P2 in the junior championship category. Right where he needed to be when the day handed him an only-in-hard-enduro moment. His back wheel became completely wrapped in copper wire somewhere on course, and by the time he reached the finish it needed cutting off. Only in the Idaho mountains, only in hard enduro, and as someone remarked trackside, only a South African would collect it quite so efficiently.

@HEWC

In the junior category, Marc Fernandez was P5, Toby Shaw P4 and Lenny Geretzky, the youngest member of Mario Roman's Sorry Bro team and a Plews supported rider in his own right, came home P6 in the junior class and P23 overall on a motocross bike, an extra challenge that would have most riders thinking twice before even lining up.

Final Day

The final day was a multi-lap race finishing with the famous X-Loop. The first two thirds of the course kept the field together, setting up some tight racing between the top riders. It was only in the brutal closing sections that the race began to split apart and when it did, it split hard.

When the dust settled, just eight riders had completed six laps and made it to the finish. One of them was Matt Green.

Matt crossed the line in P7, a brilliant result and by his own admission one of his better rides of the year. He was happy with his tyre setup and the way it performed across the varied Idaho terrain, and left the weekend with a smile and some solid championship points in the bag.

@HEWC

Mario had a harder day. He was spotted working on the bike during the race, what appeared to be a brake issue, and it cost him the result his pace deserved. He crossed the line in P12. "Not the best weekend," he said afterwards. "A few problems here and there. Onto the next one." Mario knows better than most that results like this are part of a long season, and he will be back.

@HEWC

James Moore had everything stacked against him from almost the first minute. Five minutes into the race he hit a technical issue that cost him ten minutes trackside. From dead last, on one of the hardest tracks on the calendar, he fought his way back to P17 overall and P3 in the junior class. "Not the cleanest weekend for me, but I managed to catch up to seventeenth. Third in the juniors, there's still some points. I'm happy with my ride and we've got a lot of races ahead." That kind of mental resilience is what builds champions.

Toby Shaw came home P20 overall and P5 in the junior category. He was honest about his day. The first few laps were a real struggle and he lost significant time to the front group early on. But he found his feet in the second half of the race and finished strong. "The last two or three laps I felt really strong. I finished strong, which I was happy about. It's a new experience and I'm happy to go home in one piece."

Marc Fernandez finished P21 overall and P6 in the junior category on the final day, gathering more experience at world championship level.

And then there was Lenny Geretzky. Part of Mario Roman's Sorry Bro team and a Plews supported rider, Lenny went to Silver Kings on a motocross bike. Not an enduro machine, a motocross bike, and finished P11 overall and P2 in the junior category on the final day. He had started from the third row on a rocky slope start and fought his way into the top ten by the time riders crested the opening hill, following the pros to read their lines and learn their speed. He held P10 for most of the race before slipping to P11 on the final lap. "It was unreal. We pushed so much. I followed the pros so I could read the lines and see what the speed is. I'm super happy about it." P2 junior. On a motocross bike. At Silver Kings. Remarkable.

British Extreme: Round 5, Summit Extreme, Hapton

While the HEWC was playing out in Idaho, another big result was being written back at Hapton. Round five of the Plews Tyres ACU British Extreme Enduro Championship took place at the Summit Extreme, and it was a cracker.

Championship Class

Richard Moorhouse took the win. Nine laps, P1 overall and a performance that was confident and controlled throughout. "Brilliant track set by Wayne and his team. Loved every minute of it." The Plews Tyres were doing their job on the uphills and it showed. A big result for Richard and one that will have a real impact on the championship picture.

Francesc Moret came in gunning for the top spot and had a strong race, finishing P4 overall with nine laps completed, right in the mix throughout.

Bert Boam crossed the line in P5, the last rider to complete nine laps. It is worth noting that Bert has recently joined the Eurotek Rieju team alongside Radford Chugg. A new chapter for the rider who has been one of the more consistent performers in the championship this season.

Matt Stuttard put in a solid P6 on eight laps, riding consistently and in his own words picking his way through traffic on what was a physical race. "Tough going picking way through traffic. Good to see the locals cheering on."

Radford Chugg followed closely in P7 on eight laps, running an Extreme super gummy front with a soft mousse and The Beast on the rear. The same tyre Mario used to dominate round one at this very venue back in January. It was not just about the tyre choice, Radford was riding with style and looking confident on the bike throughout.

Charlie Frost had a day he would rather forget, at least in terms of the result. An incident right after the first corner saw him run wide and go down hard, with significant pain in his leg for the remainder of the race. He dug in and pushed through to finish P16 on seven laps, exactly the kind of grit this championship demands.

Expert Class

Connor Watson continues to demand attention from those watching in the championship class. He finished P9 overall and P2 in the expert class on eight laps, riding with real confidence and making a very clear statement about where his ability sits. He is a rider who will not stay in the expert class for long.

Peter Collins finished P12 overall and P5 in the expert class on seven laps. Jed Balmer was P13 overall and P6 in the expert class, also on seven laps.

EMX250: MXGP of Italy, Montevarchi

Over in Italy the EMX250 was in action at the MXGP of Italy, and it was a weekend of contrasting emotions for the Mequitec GASGAS Spanish Racing Team.

Manuel Lopez Carreras delivered the result of his EMX250 season so far. After a P11 in race one, he came out swinging in race two — battling with the front group and crossing the line in P6 for a P5 overall finish. His best result in a European championship by some distance, and a significant confidence boost heading into the back half of the season. "I honestly don't even know what to say," he said afterwards. "We've managed to turn things around and we know what made us reverse the start of the season. See you next weekend in Portugal."

Adrià Monné was not so fortunate. A heavy crash in the first moto brought his weekend to an early end, though thankfully medical checks ruled out any serious injury. "A really bad crash in the first moto has taken me out for the rest of the weekend. Time to recover, learn, and come back stronger." A frustrating outcome for a rider who has been building momentum, but the most important thing is that he is alright.

British Masters Motocross: Wroxton

A hot, sunny weekend at Wroxton and another strong showing from the Plews riders across the categories.

125 Class

Ryan Waggot was the highest-scoring Plews rider in the 125 class, finishing P2 overall with consistent results throughout the day. Joel Winstanley Dawson showed real pace including a race two victory but an unfortunate DNF in race three cost him in the overall standings and he finished P12.

Ronan Watson was simply untouchable. Three races, three wins and a holeshot award for good measure. One race was unfortunately cancelled following a serious incident involving a young rider. Thoughts are with everyone affected. Despite the disruption Ronan's performance was outstanding. "Fantastic weekend. Taking all three wins and the holeshot award." Forest Roberts, Riley Rogers and Bradley Thompson all put in solid days behind him.

Cohen Llewellyn continued his run of personal bests with a P3 overall. A strong result bookended by a P3 in races one and three, with a crash in race two costing him what could have been an even better day. "Continuing the progress ladder with best finish of the season after every round. Silly crash in moto two cost the P3 but good to see him get back up and going quicker."

ADAC MX Masters: Round 4, Tensfeld

The SHR Motorsports by Hartje team headed to Tensfeld for round four of the ADAC MX Masters and faced conditions that were nothing short of brutal. Continuous rain, strong winds, heavy downpours, multiple sessions stopped or cancelled. Tensfeld is already regarded as one of the toughest circuits on the calendar and this weekend threw everything it had at the riders.

Despite the chaos, both Jörgen-Matthias Talviku and Emil Weckman delivered performances worth celebrating. Qualifying was impressive, Talviku was third fastest before the session was stopped, eventually securing P5 gate pick, with Weckman right behind in P9. On the notoriously long Tensfeld start straight, starting position is everything.The opening moto on Saturday was red-flagged early. Talviku had worked his way into P4 before the flag came out. Weckman was classified P14.

Sunday's racing told two different stories. In the second moto, Talviku had been challenging near the front when a heavy crash forced him to restart from the back of the field. He fought hard and clawed his way back to P14. Not the result he came for but a display of real determination. Weckman meanwhile put together one of his cleanest rides of the season, crossing the line in P9 for his best individual moto result of the year.

Then came the final moto, and the moment of the weekend. Talviku and Weckman rounded the first corner in first and second position, an SHR 1-2 leading the ADAC MX Masters field. Talviku controlled the race from the front through the opening stages and held the lead until around halfway, before the relentless demands of the deeply rutted Tensfeld sand track began to tell. He crossed the line in P4, a strong finish and P6 overall for the weekend. Weckman had a less fortunate ending to the moto, going down and rejoining at the back, but showed real character to fight back to P20 and collect championship points.

Bibi Finnja Bestmann continued her development in the German Women's Motocross Championship. The conditions in Tensfeld were about as tough as they come for a young rider still finding her feet at this level, and while the results were not where she would have wanted them, the experience gained on a track like this in conditions like these is invaluable.

A challenging weekend overall for SHR, but with qualifying pace, a race-leading 1-2, and Weckman's season-best moto result, there is plenty of momentum to carry into the next round.

Three continents. Five championships. Results from Idaho to Italy and everywhere in between. Richard Moorhouse is on the podium at Hapton. Matt Green is among the top riders who made it to the Silver Kings finish. Manuel Lopez Carreras has his best EMX250 result in the book. And SHR led the ADAC field into the first corner of the final moto. The season is well and truly rolling, more to come!
