Ruts, rain and red plate racing. Plews racing across two big weekends

MXGB

Round 4 of the MXGB Championship took place at Landrake. Known as a fast flowing and technical track. Riders had quite the challenge with the track this weekend facing deep ruts and a bit of rain too.

MX1 Class

Charlie Putnam, SC Sporthomes rider shared that he really enjoyed the track and the ruts that were forming after qualifying but found it challenging to pass because of riders sitting in these ruts. They did some tyre changes throughout the day starting with the Hawkstone for the mud but switching to the Matterly to tackle the more hard pack terrain. In race 1 Charlie unfortunately jumped the gate which would result in him having to push hard to catch up to around 15th. He had a crash over the bars but managed to keep pushing to finish in P16. He felt that the result didn’t represent the effort but was still in good spirits. Race two would be a better P15 finish and overall Charlie left the weekend feeling optimistic for the rest of the season.

Syd Putnam also part of the SC Sporthomes team had some good results over the weekend coming away with some points. In race one he felt as though his back tyre had collapsed and pull in to check only to find that it hadn’t and he had let everyone past with only two laps to go. A frustrating result on this one. In race two he had some good battles for 17th but had a small crash and crossed the line in P20. Syd was really impressed with his Hawkstone scoop tyre choice for the race weekend.

Charlie Heyman from the SC Sporthomes Husqvarna team had some great racing over the weekend. Starting with race one he finished P1 and reflecting on it he commented that he actually felt quite related and after a pit board message telling him keep relaxed on the bike he found himself loosening up. He pushed hard foe the first 3 - 5 laps to pull a gap and maintained to the finished. Charlie had a slightly different tyre choice which was the Hawkstone scoop which he claims to use everywhere. In race two Charlie played it safe but consistent and finished in P4. Overall this season he has not been off the podium and continues to extended his championship lead.

Sotirios Fotakis SJ qualified P22 and showed strong potential all day. He had an unfortunate puncture which ended his race 1 while he was running inside the top 16. In race 2 he fought back to P24 after getting caught up with a fallen rider. There were clear positives to take from both races.

Jamie Keith had a decent weekend of racing. Qualifying in P5. Race one he found a bit challenging having to work with back markers but ultimately finished in P9. Race two unfortunately wouldn’t be a great result with a DNF due to technical brake issues. Overall he finished in P15 and can still be proud of the progress he is making in his first year in MX2.

Joel Winstanley - Dawson has been improving his race craft week after week. He had a great race one coming across the line in P3 and sticking with the front runners. Race two would be an unfortunate DNF due to a crash but he was riding incredible well up until this point. Chad Prince is another SC Sporthome Husqvarna rider who qualified P23 and delivered two consistent rides. Poor starts in both motos meant he had work to do each time, but he charged through the pack well to finish P22 in both races, making up good positions and giving himself plenty of positives to build on from the weekend.

ADAC Masters

ADAC MX Masters Class

Round 2 of the ADAC took place over the weekend at the deep, sandy Dreetz track in Germany. Known for having deep bumps and an extra wave section, this track is a challenge for both the Master cup as well as Junior cup who both raced. We follow our Plews partner, SHR Yamaha who have a number of riders racing in the ADAC championship.

Jörgen-Matthias Talviku had technical problem with the bike in race 1 and was struggling to keep a consistent pace so ended up sitting around P5 with the goal to get the bike to the finish. They sent some time working to get it ready for race 2. Race two was another good ride with a P8 finish for JMT. Unfortunately race three would not go quite to plan with more technical issue and a DNF. Reflecting on the weekend JMT shared that it wasn’t the best weekend and he’s had better days. He felt he had the speed but just couldn’t put it together. Overall he would leave the weekend with P11 and with high hopes to improve in the coming rounds.

Emil Weckman had a good start for the first race and was fighting at the front with the leaders when he started to face some technical issues. He would finish race 1 in P14. Something special about Emil’s bike is a radiator fan to keep his bike cool and horsepower up during the sand races. Race three was a better one for Emily but he did have a crash after lap two that left him in around P17. He felt that overall his riding and speed was good. Race three result was a P17 and a better note to tend the race weekend. Emil finished round two in P18 and will be looking to improve his starts for the next round.

ADAC MX Junior Cup 125

Dawid Zaremba had a great start for race 1 sitting in the lead riding well and feeling good on the bike. After a couple laps he had a crash which pushed his back to a P6 finish. In the second Dawid had an unfortunate fall in the first corner resulting in him sitting at the back of the pack and needing to push hard to catch up but after another crash he crosses the line in . Overall he didn’t feel like it was the best weekend, especially with race 2. He finished the weekend in P14 overall.
