Weekend Racing Roundup: Strong Results from Grinding Stone to MXGP Round 1

This past weekend there were many off-road activities taking place around the world! From Hard Enduro to EMX. We also had the start of two championships being the MXGB and MXGB youth. Let’s run through some of the results from this weekend.

Grinding Stone Hard enduro

Two of our top Plews supported riders headed to the US to race at Grinding Stone Hard Enduro. For the first time Mario Roman took part in this unique and iconic race with a small team supported by the Hard Enduro Burros. They pulled together resources and with key sponsors on board like Plews, Mario had some solid racing and results. In the first race Mario rook second place tackling the dry and dusty rocks with ease. As a technical riders Mario was able to adapt to this unique terrain and it’s challenges with ease. Heading into the mai race day he was on top of his game and crossed the finish line in 2nd behind local legend, Trystan Hart.

Matthew Green has been racing the US Hard Enduro series as pre-season training and prep for the World Championship series. This was round 3 and a completely different conditions from the previous race in the Hawaiian jungle where he placed 3rd. In the first race Matt had a solid result of P4 which set him on on the first row for the main race. Matt shared some thoughts mid race saying “it’s getting brutal out there, it’’s getting hot”. This was certainly a challenging race with tough conditions and Matt confirmed that this was the “Scariest race i’ve ever done!”. Matthew finished in 10th position which puts him in 4th in the overall championship standings.

Looking at tyres, both our riders were running the EN1 Tough One Extreme on the rear and it’s safe to say, they they had all the traction they needed.

MXGP EMX125 and 250

Round 1 of the EMX 125 and 250 took place at Almonte in Spain on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd of March. We have two Plews supported teams within this championship namely the Norman KTM Factory Rookies Team and the Spanish Mequitec GASGAS Racing Team. Each with talented riders competing on the world stage.

The Norman KTM Factory Rookies Team had an excellent start to the 2026 EMX125 season. Moritz Ernecker had an overall victory and there was a strong comeback from Ricardo Bauer. In the practice group Ricardo Bauer set the fastest time, while Moritz Ernecker followed with the second-fastest time. This sent a clear message for the rest of the weekend.

In the first moto, Moritz Ernecker took the lead early on. With a strong pace and managed to build up a gap of around six seconds to take the win. Ricardo Bauer had a more difficult start and began the race outside the top ten, but fought his way impressively through the field to finish in fourth place. In the second moto, Ernecker once again started strong and quickly moved into second place. He launched an attack for the lead but crashed in the process, dropping back to third. Bauer’s second moto started with a crash in the early stages, forcing him to come back from 35th position. He then delivered an impressive charge through the field, recovering to finish in tenth place.

With a first and third place in the motos, Moritz Ernecker secured the overall win in Andalucía. Teammate Ricardo Bauer finished sixth overall. The championship continues next weekend in Frauenfeld, Switzerland.

MXGB

Round one of the MXGB took place at a tough Hawkstone Park.

The SC SPORTHOMES HUSQVARNA team had some great results at round 1. In the MX1 class Charlie Putnam worked through the field in race 1 for P18, while Tanner Ward and Syd Putnam were just outside the points. Race 2 was a much stronger one all round, with Tanner finishing just outside the top 10, Charlie improving to P15, and Syd battling in the points before an unfortunate DNF.

In MX2, Charlie Heyman topped qualifying across both groups and backed it up with two strong motos. Two P3 finishes gave him P2 overall.

Jamie Keith had an incredible weekend of racing! In race one he would take the holeshot and continue to lead the whole race to take his first win of the MXGPB season. Race two would not be as fogiving with an unfortunate DNF but in the end Jamie walks away with P8 overall.

Ryan Waggot qualified p14 in MX2 class. In race 1, he went through a fence in the first corner and managed to get going again before a big crash at the end which resulted in a DNF. Race 2 was unfortunately not much better as he didn’t have the best start and mid way through hit a kicker in rollers and had a bad crash resulting in another DNF.

In the 125 class, Chad qualified P26 and put together two solid rides. After finishing P28 in race 1, he came back stronger in race 2 to finish P17 to score points.

MXGB Youth

Round 1 of the 2026 MXGB British Youth Motocross Championship took place at Fatcat Motoparc.

In the 65CC class we had a couple Plews supported riders racing. Cohen Llewellyn finished his weekend P12 overall with a P10 in race one, P7 in race two and P23 in race three. LG Burton Finished his weekend in P16 with a P19 in race one, P17 in race two and P16 in race three.

In the 85CC small wheel class we had Forrest Roberts finishing in P5 overall with a P5 in race one, P14 in race two and P4 in race three. A solid race result for the opening round. in the 86CC big wheel class we had Cohen Jagielski taking the top spot of the podium in P1 overall. A great start to his season. Looking at the results he got P2 in race one and two P1 positions for race two and three. John Slade finished his weekend on the podium with P3 overall. In race one and two he had two P4 results and ended with a P2 in the third. These are some valuable championship points to start the season.

An outstanding weekend of international racing across Hard Enduro and motocross disciplines. Podium finishes at Grinding Stone, overall victory at EMX125, strong MXGB results, and Youth championship success demonstrate the performance Plews-supported riders deliver across varied terrain and conditions. As championships continue across the US, UK, and Europe in the coming weeks, our riders have established strong early-season momentum. Congratulations to all athletes on exceptional results, and stay tuned for more racing updates as the 2026 season progresses.
